Human Like Ornaments / NATIVO: Architectures of Resistance

The Artist

My name is Eduardo “Eddy” Lizarraga Pedroza, a visual artist and cultural organizer originally from Tijuana, Baja California. For more than 25 years, I have been developing an artistic practice that encompasses painting, installation, muralism, printmaking, and community art. My work explores urban memory, migration, life on the streets, and the ways in which people forge connections with their surroundings. My practice is deeply rooted in Tijuana’s border context and in my experience working with vulnerable communities, migrants, and processes of reclaiming public spaces. Since 2014, I have developed community art projects, territorial interventions, and social pedagogy initiatives that seek to strengthen community ties and expand access to culture through art.

The Project

The project is titled “Human Like Ornaments / NATIVO: Architectures of Resistance”. It is a project that blends painting, installation, mural art, and community work to reflect on urban memory, migration, displacement, and the forms of survival that exist within the city of Tijuana. “Human Like Ornaments” is a series of paintings and an installation focused on depicting the invisible architectures of urban survival: makeshift shelters, cardboard, blankets, stray animals, and displaced bodies that form part of the everyday landscape of this border city. Meanwhile, “NATIVO” is a mobile community art project that engages in workshops, mural painting, and cultural activations in public spaces and vulnerable communities.
