Book on Board: My Ancestral Stories

The Artist

I am a writer and have published four books of poetry; the most recent won last year’s State Prize for Literature in Poetry. My work has revolved around words and people since childhood. My connection to writing began at age seven with personal journals and has expanded to include poetry and chronicles of everyday life. Currently, I am very interested in how writing improves the lives of individuals and communities, and I explore this through therapeutic writing workshops and reading circles. For six years, I was a reporter for the newspaper Frontera, covering cultural and community stories, and I worked for twelve years as the head of the state’s reading promotion program, in addition to collaborating in the editorial department on book production. I have published four books of poetry as an author; as a co-author and editor, I have contributed to many more. At the intersection of writing and Gestalt therapy, I support people in their self-reflection or on their journey toward publishing their works.

The Project

“Book on Board: My Ancestral Stories” is a project rooted in literature that does not remain on the fringes of the arts as the “property” of artists, but rather embraces a communal concept of social transformation, grounded in the conviction that storytelling transforms people and that, therefore, if many people in a community share their stories, this can create a synergy of individual and social reflection and transformation. The themes and approaches that drive my work include poetic literary creation, personal journaling, poetry, and chronicling everyday life; I am currently very interested in how writing improves the lives of individuals and communities, and I explore this through therapeutic writing workshops and reading circles.
