I am a filmmaker and visual artist from Torreón. In 1995, at age 15, I migrated with my family to Tijuana. When we arrived, they called me a “migrant” and told me that in this city, I would have to work. Since I was a student, I couldn’t hold a formal job, so during my first years in Tijuana I worked in the informal sector alongside women—single mothers who couldn’t work full shifts—and injured factory workers who were no longer being rehired by the factories. To pay for rent, food, and school, I decided to work in a field related to film. I taught myself editing to acquire a trade and worked at production companies specializing in corporate and social videos. Since then, I’ve held various creative and technical roles in the film industry until becoming a producer and director.
