Aida Urbina, 30-year-old visual artist with nine years of experience, originally from and currently reside in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. My artistic practice is deeply influenced by the territory I inhabit and traverse. My creative process begins with walking: the everyday experience of moving from one place to another becomes a working methodology that opens the way to observation, documentation, and investigation of the environment. Throughout my work, I have explored themes related to the idea of refuge, protection, and the construction of ephemeral nests in public space, as a way to navigate the territory and question the human dynamics of shelter that unfold within Tijuana’s urban landscape. Likewise, my work encompasses painting, sculpture, assemblage, installation, and mixed media, emphasizing the material’s memory and its relationship to place.
