Alma Gloria Moreno

Art in Consciousness

The Artist

Alma began her career in the visual arts at the University of Sonora. She moved to Tijuana in the 1990s, where she continued her work as an artist, promoter, and teacher of drawing and painting at various venues, including Punto Áureo, an independent cultural space she founded. She earned a degree in Fine Arts from the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) and currently teaches at the UABC School of Science and Technology (Faculty of Science in Engineering and Technology) (FCITEC) in Valle de las Palmas, where she develops collaborative cultural projects that integrate not only the arts but also various disciplines such as graphic design, industrial design, and architecture. For the past 8 years, she has been coordinating—alongside administrative staff, faculty, and students—an art and design gallery within the same educational institution.

The Project

Art and its outreach have the potential to influence our mood and, at best, our consciousness—both in those who create it and those who experience it. In addition to reflecting human skill and sensitivity—an act that can enhance everyday environments—it fosters confidence in one’s own abilities and, in turn, creates bonds of connection among members of diverse communities. Based on this premise, “Art in Conciousness” was formed—an interdisciplinary group that proposes the creation of an initial series of three traveling murals using compact modular elements, created by combining traditional painting techniques with unconventional materials sourced from industrial waste in Tijuana, primarily wood, plastic, and/or metal. The creative team consists of Industrial Design professors Vladimir Becerril Mendoza and Tonatiuh Magaña Guzmán, who have trained generations of industrial designers; Ricardo Iván Nieves González, a graphic design graduate, illustrator, and painter; and Alma Gloria Moreno Ibarra, an artist and instructor in the arts and design department; all members of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (Faculty of Science in Engineering and Technology) (FCITEC) at the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), Valle de las Palmas Campus.
