The New Frontiers of Intimacy

The Artist

My name is Gabriela Escárcega Langarica, and I began my career in the visual arts in 1989. Over the course of more than three decades as an artist, I have explored, learned, and developed various techniques that have allowed me to develop my own unique artistic language. Painting, sculpture, ceramics, and installation—both abstract and figurative—play a fundamental role in my work. I have also worked with watercolor, printmaking, handmade paper, encaustic, and mixed media, constantly expanding my creative possibilities. My work addresses themes related to urban transformation, social impacts, the environment in which we live, and the ways in which these factors influence our identity and how we navigate the world. Through these different media, I reflect on the relationship between the individual and their context, exploring how space, the city, and social dynamics shape our perceptions, emotions, and interactions with our surroundings.

The Project

With the extraordinary advancement of new technologies, we have profoundly transformed the way we relate to one another. However, in the process, we have also lost an essential part of our human experience: verbal communication, nonverbal language, and spaces for family togetherness. The exhibition “The New Frontiers of Intimacy” reflects on this contemporary reality and explores the various ways in which we have gradually grown apart from one another. Through painting, sculpture, and installation, I invite viewers to question how digital hyperconnectivity has altered our bonds, our perception of closeness, and our ability to connect. Rather than a critique of technology, this exhibition offers a reflection on the value of presence, listening, and human contact in an era marked by immediacy and virtuality.
