Natalie Koski-Karell

The Artist

Natalie Koski-Karell is a San Diego-based producer, director, dancer, and urban planner whose interdisciplinary practice weaves together dance, theater, film, poetry, and music. Her work explores how movement, storytelling, and our relationships with the natural world can cultivate a sense of belonging. Trained in dance from childhood, Natalie expanded her theatrical practice at Boston College before performing in educational theater and independent productions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Drawing from Contact Improvisation, ritual theater, and somatic practices, her work is informed by her experiences as an urban planner and youth outdoor guide, fostering a deep interest in place, cultural identity, and collaborative art-making. Through her production platform The Ouroboros Collaborative, Natalie recently co-organized the inaugural SAVIA Contact Improvisation and Somatic Movement Festival in Mexico, and directed LOBA, an immersive mythosomatic performance exploring feminine archetypes.

The Project

Natalie Koski-Karell will create a short film inspired by Alice in Wonderland, following a contemporary woman whose body begins to yearn for expansion and vitality. Guided by the White Rabbit, she enters an imaginative world of unexpected messengers, movement, and encounters with nature. Filmed across San Diego County’s urban, coastal, desert, and border landscapes, the film will weave together dance, puppetry, masks, costume, and collage animation. A participatory public ritual in San Diego will invite community members into the creative process. Following completion, the film will be presented through public screenings across San Diego County, each accompanied by a movement-based component that invites audiences to engage with the work through their own bodies and collective experience.
