Oscar Romo is a San Diego artist and environmental engineer whose work connects scientific knowledge, public space, and environmental stewardship. Over four decades, his artistic and technical practices have developed together, exploring how materials can be recovered and reused rather than discarded. Romo began illustrating engineering textbooks and technical journals while at university. His work expanded into architectural renderings, archaeological drawings, and botanical illustration. After relocating his family to San Diego and spending a decade rebuilding their lives, he returned to art through scientific illustration during doctoral studies in environmental sciences. His installations translate ecological research into visual and tactile experiences for wider audiences. His work has been presented through San Diego public libraries and in municipal buildings across the region, including Tijuana. Drawing on international environmental projects, he seeks to make the connections between consumption, waste, and healthy ecosystems visible.
