Paul Jimenez is a muralist born and raised in Chula Vista and the founder of Ground Floor Murals. His work features realistic portraits, wildlife, cultural figures, and stories connected to the communities where he paints. A lifelong interest in drawing became a professional mural practice during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Jimenez used his stimulus payment to invest in supplies and began painting backyard and alley walls. Those early opportunities led to commissions and, over six years, more than 70 murals throughout San Diego County. Growing up in the San Diego–Tijuana border region shaped his interest in family, identity, and representation. Jimenez works with local people and businesses to create murals that reflect their histories and surroundings. Through donations, discounts, and other support, he also seeks to make public art available to organizations and neighborhood businesses with limited budgets.
